The sights of Egypt are quite incredible. Even more incredible though is the rate of technological advance that took place over a couple of centuries in the building of the pyramids. From where they started, their advance must have seemed even more rapid than the current pace of technological advance in computers and communication. But having built the Great Pyramid, the Egyptians ran out of something and could only go backwards.
Another thread to the holiday was life on the Nile, sometimes very modern, sometimes geared to the tourists, and sometimes as it must have been at the time of the pyramid building. The felluccas may be an ancient design, but they are graceful, they carry everything up and down the Nile, and the skill with which they are sailed is a marvel.
